Washington pensioner fought off bag snatchers

A PENSIONER fought off two men who tried to steal her handbag.

The 66-year-old victim was crossing the footbridge from Blackfell to Oxclose, in Washington, when the pair passed her.

One grabbed at the bag which was on her shoulder, but the woman managed to keep hold of it before the men made off.

The attackers are described as both being in their 30s, both between 5ft 7in and 5ft 8in tall, with dark hair and average build.

One was wearing a black jacket with black jogging bottoms with a white stripe down the side.

The second man was wearing blue or grey clothes.

Police officers say the woman was left shaken but uninjured.

Those with information regarding the incident, which happened at about 9.45am on Tuesday, should call Northumbria Police on 101 ext 69191 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
