A WASHINGTON man will appear at Newcastle Crown Court tomorrow after he became the 10th person to be charged in connection with a far-reaching sex offences investigation.
Pienan Bisetoon, 22, of Waterloo Walk, has been charged with two offences of rape of a female under 16, as part of Northumbria Police’s Operation Sanctuary.
The operation is looking into allegations of sexual offences committed against vulnerable women and girls.
Since the operation’s launch in January, a total of 69 men and two women have been arrested across the force area. Also charged are Sail Uddin and Gurhan Sayan.
Uddin, 41, of Churchill Street, Sunderland, has been charged with two counts of sexual assault and possession of a controlled drug.
He will appear at Newcastle Crown Court on May 14 for a plea and case management hearing.
Sayan, 44, of Plunkett Terrace, Chester-le-Street, was charged with assault by penetration and will stand trial at the same court on August 4.
Police have identified about 80 potential victims, who are being spoken to and provided support.
