DETECTIVES probing the death of a solicitor at the centre of an inquiry have released CCTV footage of him setting off on a run just moments before he died.
Peter Maine was found with stab wounds to his chest next to the running track at Maiden Castle in Durham at 8am on Sunday after leaving his black Range Rover in Old Elvet in the city 35 minutes earlier.
He was treated by paramedics, but was confirmed dead shortly after arrival at the University Hospital of North Durham.
Police say they are treating the 56-year-old’s death as suspicious and unexplained, with the team of 30 working on the case keeping an open mind about how he sustained his injuries. The former solicitor was being investigated by police as they looked into an alleged £170million scam involving properties which were bought and rented back.
The CCTV footage shows Mr Maine, of Wynard near Stockton, on Old Elvet and then on Territorial Lane heading towards the River Wear.
Police can be called on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
