A HUNT for a sex attacker has been called off after the alleged victim withdrew her complaint.
Sunderland Police had received a report that a 62-year-old had been assaulted on October 20, at the bus shelter near the wooded area in Trimdon Street, Millfield.
It was said the woman had been walking back from the city centre when she was grabbed by a 6ft-tall man.
She suffered facial injuries and was taken to Sunderland Royal Hospital for treatment.
Officers carried out door-to-door inquiries in the area and stepped up patrols to reassure residents.
However, yesterday they revealed they were no longer investigating the allegation, after the woman retracted it.
It is not thought that any further action will be taken.
