VANDALS caused more than £1,000-worth of a damage to an 80-year-old bowls club
Pipes were ripped off and an awning pulled down from the clubhouse at North Biddick Bowling Club, Mount Pleasant.
The vandals then hurled the damaged pipes on to the bowling green between 5pm and 6pm on Wednesday.
The club, which welcomes bowlers on a daily basis between April and October each year, has been a pivotal part of Penshaw Park since 1930.
It is hoped it will be able to reopen in time for the new season.
Police are asking for any witnesses, or anyone with information, to come forward.
