DETECTIVES probing the disappearance of Sunderland grandad Robert Hutchinson have said the investigation remains live despite the only suspects arrested on suspicion of his murder being released without charge.
The 57-year-old has not been seen since leaving his home in Corporation Road, Hendon, on June 23, and police believe he has been murdered.
His car was found abandoned in Stewart Street, off Chester Road, a week later.
Mr Hutchinson’s family have made a series of emotional appeals in the hope of finding out what happened to him.
But they faced further disappointment as both men held in connection with the investigation have been told they will face no charges.
A Northumbria Police spokeswoman said: “The two men arrested on suspicion of murder in July 2014 were released with no further police action. This remains an active investigation and officers are continuing to make enquiries.”
Speaking to the Echo earlier this year, Mr Hutchinson’s daughter Paula, 31, said: “It’s the not knowing what has happened to him which is killing the whole family.”
Anyone with information should call Northumbria Police on 101, extension 69191.
