TWO people have been found dead at a house in Washington.
Police were called out this morning at 10.30am after paramedics found two people dead at an address at Biddick Villas, in Columbia, Washington.
Officers attended the scene where a man and woman had been found by a carer who called emergency services. They were pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.
Enquiries are underway to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the deaths. A post mortem examination is due to be carried out and police say they are giving family members support.
DCI Christina Barrett, from Northumbria Police’s Major Crime Team, is leading the investigation.
She said: “This investigation is at an early stage, however, there is nothing to suggest there is any threat to the wider community.
“Early indications are that noone else has been involved in these deaths but our enquiries continue to establish exactly what has taken place.
“Anyone with information they believe could assist us is asked to come forward.”
Chief Inspector Dave Willett, from Sunderland Area Command, added: “I understand people may feel concerned following this incident and will have officers in the area to offer reassurance.
“Anyone with concerns should speak to officers on patrol or by calling their local Neighbourhood Policing Team.”
