TWO people have been released on bail after they were arrested over the brutal murder of John Hall.
The body of Mr Hall, 46, was discovered in Marks Lane, West Rainton on Sunday at about 7pm.
The victim, who lived in Shiney Row, had been reported missing from his home in Burn Terrace on Monday.
He suffered multiple injuries in what detectives described as a “violent” attack.
Two men aged 43 and 32 arrested on suspicion of murder have been bailed pending further inquiries.
Three men aged 48, 45 and 34 who were also arrested on suspicion of murder, remain in custody.
Police today made a fresh appeal for information regarding Mr Hall’s death.
Detective Chief Inspector Christina Barrett, of Northumbria Police, who is leading the hunt for his killers, said: “We are continuing to appeal for witnesses to come forward.
“In particular, we are keen to hear from anyone who saw or heard suspicious activity in the area where Mr Hall’s body was found at Marks Lane, near to the railway bridge, on Sunday evening.
“And at the area of Mill Terrace (in Shiney Row), including the rear lane, we are keen to hear from anyone who saw anything unusual or suspicious between Saturday evening and Tuesday evening.
“We are continuing to work closely with Durham Constabulary building on the joint work carried out to date.
“I’d also like to reiterate that we do not believe Mr Hall was the victim of a random attack and that those involved are known to each other.”
