TWO men have been arrested after a man with learning difficulties was subjected to a violent attack as he walked home from work.
The victim was making his way along Bonemill Lane in Harraton, Washington, on Saturday night.
It is thought that a man got out of a car which was passing him and punched the man, leaving him on the ground and with injuries to his face.
Police have confirmed that two men are currently in custody after being arrested in connection with the assault.
A spokesman for Northumbria Police said: “Police were called following an incident between 11.10pm and 11.30pm on Saturday, March 14, in Bonemill Lane, Washington.
“Officers responded to a report of a 54-year-old man who had been assaulted.
“He suffer lacerations to his face and grazing to his forehead.
“Two men aged 22 and 21 are currently in custody after being arrested on suspicion of assault.”
