FLORAL tributes have been left at the spot where a dad died after a street disturbance prompting a police murder investigation.

Flowers from family members of John Potts, 45, with touching messages were left at the scene off Burnhope Road, Barmston, in Washington.

Police say Mr Potts, from the Sunderland area, died after suffering a head injury in a disturbance in the street at around 12.50am on Sunday.

A 26-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder.

One message on the flowers read: “To Uncle John we are absolutely devastated. You’ve been taken too soon. All our love from your heartbroken nieces and nephews.”

Another said: “To John, our brother. Taken too soon. We will miss you forever.”

Police have been carrying out inquiries in the area and are appealing for anyone with information to contact them.
