A THUG threatened “to kick the baby out” of his pregnant girlfriend during a terrifying 30-minute ordeal, as she took shelter in a hotel room wardrobe.
Sean French’s mum and another female relation had already wrestled the 21-year-old off his five-months-pregnant partner, when he made the threats.
He had taken cocaine and alcohol at his brother’s wedding when he launched the unprovoked attack, Peterlee magistrates heard.
Prosecutor Vicky Wilson said the victim had been asleep in their room at Lumley Castle, in Chester-le-Street, when French stormed in at about 2am.
He grabbed her by her hair extensions and threw her face first onto the floor, before he got on top of her and started to choke her, the court heard.
“In fear of the defendant she locks herself in the cupboard,” Ms Wilson said. “He was shouting ‘I don’t know who you think you are protecting. I’m going to kick the baby out of you’.”
Police arrived and arrested French, who has been in custody since, having been recalled to prison to serve the remainder of a 40-month sentence for robbery.
French, of Claremont Walk, Gateshead, pleaded guilty to assault and was jailed for 18 weeks. He was also given a restraining order until further notice.
