CALLOUS thieves stole a pensioner’s mobility scooter which was parked outside a supermarket in East Boldon.
The burgundy Shoprider scooter was left at Sainsbury’s in Station Terrace between 9.30pm and 10pm on Thursday.
When its owner - a woman in her 60s - returned, the scooter had been stolen.
Neighbourhood Inspector Dave Hudson, from Northumbria Police, said: “The scooter is extremely important to the owner, as she suffers from a number of medical conditions which make it difficult for her to get around.
“It gives her independence and makes life easier for her and we’re appealing for help to trace the whereabouts of the scooter and return it to her.”
Anyone with information about the scooter, which has a grey seat and a wicker basket on the front, is asked to contact police on 101 ext 69191, quoting reference 369 11/07/14, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
The appeal comes during Northumbria Police’s Operation Soundwave, aimed at tackling opportunist thieves and burglars across the force.
