THIEVES have made off with a road roller from a hospital building site.

Police are appealing for witnesses after the yellow-coloured, Bomag model road roller was taken from the Cherry Knowle Hospital building site.

The incident happened between 6.40pm on Wednesday, January 15, and 9.15am on Thursday, January 16, at the site, which is just off the A1018 Stockton Road.

Sergeant Gary Dunning, of Sunderland East Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “This is a very distinctive vehicle, heavy and slow moving, and likely to have been transported from the site. I would ask anyone who may have seen this vehicle being taken away and anyone who may be offered this vehicle for sale to get in contact with officers.”

Anyone with information should contact police on 101, extension 69191, quoting log number 273 of 16/01/14, or ring the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
