A RAIDER who broke into the home of a woman he knew has been spared jail.

Craig Bell crept into the victim’s house through an unlocked door, while her boyfriend was asleep on the sofa, and stole a laptop from upstairs.

The 32-year-old, of Cairo Street, Hendon, admitted burglary at Newcastle Crown Court. Judge Penny Moreland sentenced him to nine months’ imprisonment, suspended for 18 months, with programme requirements and 120 hours’ unpaid work.

The judge told him: “The burglary was a mean offence at the home of a lady who you know. This clearly had an impact on her.”
