THIS is the thief who stole a “slap and tickle” sex toy from Sunderland’s Ann Summers store.
Jonathan Thomas McDade helped himself to the “toys”, worth £51, before walking out of the city centre shop.
The 23-year-old had hidden the male and female adult accessories in his pockets.
Staff at the High Street West store spotted a display had been re-arranged to conceal missing items and McDade was pinpointed from CCTV.
When police raided his home in Red House, Sunderland, officers discovered three sex toys hidden under his bed – two from Ann Summers, including the Slap and Tickle sex toy worn by some men.
McDade made no reply to questions put to him during a police interview.
But at Sunderland Magistrates’ Court yesterday he pleaded guilty to theft.
Prosecutor Glenda Back told the court that the theft took place at about 3.30pm on March 19.
Defending, Trish Mitten said: “I don’t think any of us want to go into significant detail about the items stolen or the circumstances around that.
“CCTV was not available to view at the police station, but a very poor quality black and white photo was provided from the CCTV.
“The CCTV was made available to me this morning and I viewed it with Mr McDade.
“He is someone who has a record, but dishonesty offences don’t appear to be significant, with only one conviction for a kindred offence, relating to him entering the shed of a property he used to live at after him and his family vacated the property.
“This type of offending is somewhat out of character for him.”
Magistrates ordered McDade, of Rosyth Road, to pay a £100 fine, £85 court costs and a £15 victim surcharge.
