ROGUE callers claiming to be from computer companies are conning people out of their cash.
Durham Police are warning people not to give out their credit card details over the phone, unless they are certain who they are talking to, after a spate of complaints over aggressive sales techniques being used by a computer company.
Victims have received calls from a company claiming their computer was under risk of failure through a security breach flagged up by them.
The caller then asks for the victim’s credit card details and authorisation of payment for a fake anti-virus software.
Inspector Martin Willis said: “Genuine companies would not deliberately panic customers and use aggressive tactics to sell their products.
“People need to be alert to this type of scam and be on their guard against bogus callers.”
