A Sunderland woman threatened to rip her ex-girlfriend’s face off during a string of messages after they broke up.
Dionne Lenaghan appeared at Sunderland Magistrates Court charged with harassing her former partner Lindsay Taylor via text message.
Lenaghan pleaded guilty to pursuing a course of conduct amounting to harassment of Ms Taylor.
Prosecutor Andrea Pitt told the court: “Ms Lenaghan and Ms Taylor were in a relationship from about 2009 and for much for that time it seems that the relationship was a happy one and there were no problems.
“However, there came a time when it broke down and the two separated.
“They then, however, got back together and Ms Taylor describes Ms Lenaghan as jealous, possessive and controlling.”
Ms Pitt told the court how the pair separated again and, on February 16 this year, Ms Taylor received text messages from a number she knew to be the defendant’s which contained threatening words.
Messages included threats such as; “Wotcha – going to rip your face off” and “If you think your face was bad last time what do you think is coming?”
At the same time the court heard how messages were also sent on Facebook to Ms Taylor’s nextdoor neighbour as a way of trying to reach Ms Taylor.
Ms Taylor called the police, who attended Leneghan’s home and arrested and interviewed her.
Tom Morgan, defending, said: “This defendant is a lady with significant issues. There is a lot to be said by way of mitigation.”
The sentence was adjourned until September 7 at Sunderland Magistrates’ Court while a pre-sentence report is prepared. Lenaghan was released on conditional bail until then.
