A SEX attacker has been jailed for seven-and-a-half years for the brutal rape of a teenager.
Richard Johnstone warned his victim he would kill her and almost choked her during the nightmare ordeal.
The victim was left with bloodshot and bruised eyes, and was covered in her own blood.
Newcastle Crown Court heard the attack happened at a house in Sunderland, in March.
Prosecutor Gavin Doig said: “He put his arm around her throat.
“He put her to the floor saying ‘do as I say or I will kill you’. She tried to get away.
“She lost consciousness and came round to find his arm still around her throat. She had blood all over her face.
“He used the heel of his hand to press against her throat and she vomited.”
The court heard the victim was raped twice as her ordeal continued.
Johnstone, of no fixed address, pleaded guilty to two charges of rape.
The court heard the 30-year-old has previous convictions for violence, but none for sexual offences.
Judge John Evans told him: “You have never behaved in this way before and I dare say those around you never anticipated you would.
“This was an appalling incident. It was a sustained attack and it was brutal.”
The judge said Johnstone’s sentence will be extended by a two-and-a-half year licence period.
He must register as a sex offender for life.
Donald McFaul, defending, said Johnstone, who has “poor recollection” of what he did that night because of what he had been drinking, had a deeply troubled past and has been the victim of crime himself.
Mr McFaul said: “He is utterly and totally devastated and remorseful about having inflicted this trauma upon this young girl.
“He is utterly remorseful and sorry for his behaviour.”
