Sunderland murder probe: Investigations continue after seven arrested over death of David Walsh

Police are continuing a murder investigation after the death of a man in Hendon.

The victim, named locally as David Walsh, died after police received reports of an attack in Canon Cockin Street on Friday night.

Officers and paramedics were called at 11.10pm on Friday and Mr Walsh, said to be a dad of four and aged in his 40s, was taken to hospital. He was subsequently pronounced dead.

Six people were arrested on suspicion of murder on Saturday and a seventh was arrested on Sunday.

They are still being quizzed by detectives.

A Northumbria Police spokesman said: “Extra officers are in the area carrying out inquiries and are providing reassurance.

“Police are appealing for anyone with information to get in touch.”

Pam Bolden wrote: “My heart goes out to Trish and their children. David and Trish were indeed childhood sweethearts, they had been together all their adult lives, coping with this will be very difficult for them. My very best wishes and heartfelt condolences at this very sad time. Nobody’s life should be taken this way. X”
