A MAN has been jailed for six months for burglary.

Kevin Aaron Thorburn, 32, from Tatham Street, Hendon, Sunderland, appeared at North Tyneside Magistrates’ Court where he pleaded guilty to breaking into a chip shop in Whitley Bay town centre, on Monday, July 8.

He was sentenced to six months in prison.

Another seven burglaries in the Whitley Bay, Wallsend and Tynemouth areas were taken into consideration by the courts when Thorburn, pictured, was sentenced.

Inspector Jim Gray, of Northumbria Police, said: “Thorburn is a burglar who targets business premises, and shop-owners and staff can rest assured that he has been taken off the streets.

“This sentence should serve as a warning to any criminals that if you commit burglaries in the area then you face being arrested, put before the courts and being sent to jail.”
