A MAN has appeared in court charged with child sex offences.

The allegations of rape and sexual assault against Mark Stephen Langton date back to 2002.

Langton, 44, is accused of eight sex attacks against a teenage schoolgirl, who cannot be named for legal reasons.

Langton, of Millthorp Close in Leechmere, Sunderland, is accused of raping the teen and indecently assaulting her three times between August 2002 and 2003.

He is also charged with four offences of rape against a girl between August 2003 and December 2005.

Two of the rape charges relate to a girl under the age of 13.

All the offences are alleged to have taken place in Houghton.

Langton, wearing a dark hooded top, appeared at Sunderland Magistrates’ Court yesterday.

Magistrates committed the case to Newcastle Crown Court, where he will appear on January 11.

Langton was ordered to live and sleep at his home address and not communicate with three prosecution witnesses.
