JUST one Sunderland AFC fan has been arrested, as thousands enjoyed pre-match celebrations in London last night.
AN army of red and white filled the capital ahead of today’s Capital One cup final clash with Manchester City at Wembley.
But just one man was detained by officers from London’s Metropolitan Police.
The 28-year-old, who police say is from the North East of England, was arrested after a disturbance in the city’s West End.
Three officers were left with minor injuries after a disturbance in Villiers Street at about 7.30pm.
The man was arrested on suspicion of being drunk and disorderly and assaulting police officers.
He was being held in a central London police station, a spokesman for the force confirmed today.
Thousands of Sunderland fans gathered in Covent Garden last night, ahead of today’s all-important game.
The news of a solitary arrest comes as a Tory MP labelled fans “scumbags” on social media site Twitter.
Harrow MP Robert Halfon sparked fury when he posted a picture of litter in the streets and wrote: “Went to London for dinner. Wish I hadn’t. Scumbag football hooligans turn Covent Garden into a disgusting Cesspit.”
