POLICE have arrested a man on suspicion of criminal damage after shop windows were smashed in Durham city centre.
Items of street furniture were thrown for no apparent reason, at two windows in North Road, causing £1,200 worth of damage.
Officers were called to the scene at shortly after 3am on Monday by a neighbour.
They arrested a man in his thirties, and he is said to be helping police with their inquiries.
A police spokesman said: “A local resident called police and has provided a witness statement.
“It was disappointing that there were others on the street at that time, yet no additional calls were received.”
