A MEDAL awarded to a workman who helped to build the Channel Tunnel was among items snatched by a burglar.
The commemorative piece was taken from a house in Rainton Street, Seaham, at about 11pm on Friday.
Only about 1,000 of the medals were issued to workers when the 37.9km tunnel, which connects England and France was completed in 1994.
A number of £5 coins and £2 coins in display cases and wedding rings were also taken from the house.
Police are linking the theft to another break at a house in Stewart Street East, which happened in the same half-hour and led to a laptop being taken.
