POLICE are appealing for information after a number of high-value fish and pond equipment was stolen in Sunderland.

In the last month there has been five thefts reported to officers in the Town End Farm area of the city.

During the incidents items such as pond pumps, filters, ornaments, garden chairs and even fish have been stolen from addresses in Runcorn Road, Banbury Avenue, Bingley Street, Kemble Square and Bexhill Square.

Neighbourhood Inspector Tony Carty said: “We are looking into whether these crimes are linked but it’s clear whoever is responsible for them is targeting homes that have ponds and gardens.

“Fish worth more than £500 have been taken during these thefts and I’d ask residents in the area who do keep fish and have ponds to be vigilant and be on the look out for anyone suspicious. Report anything you’re not sure about to us and we can investigate.”

Anyone with any information into the thefts is asked to contact police in Sunderland on 101 ext 69191 quoting reference number 038364e/14 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
