THIEVES have carried out a spate of thefts from cars.
Since Wednesday, six cars across Hetton have been targeted by thieves who have broken into the vehicles after spotting valuables left on display.
Stolen items include CDs, a CD player, radios and sat navs.
Houghton and Hetton Neighbourhood Inspector Lisa Musgrove said: “A number of cars have been broken into in Hetton over the past two days and they seem to be taking place overnight.
“We’re carrying out enquiries to trace the person responsible and would urge any witnesses or anyone who sees suspicious activity in the area to get in touch with us as soon as possible.
“I’d also like to remind motorists to, where possible, remove anything of value from their cars, ensure nothing is left on display overnight or when the car is parked up and to make sure windows are shut and doors are locked.
“By taking simple steps motorists can reduce their risk of falling victim to opportunist thieves.”
