SEVEN men have appeared in court charged with conspiracy to supply drugs after a series of dawn raids on Wearside.
Officers from Durham Constabulary made 11 arrests after a series of searches at homes in Durham and Houghton on Monday.
A number of those who were detained appeared at Sunderland Magistrates’ Court yesterday.
They were: Neville Watson, 34, of South View Terrace; Daniel Quinnell, 26, of Shakespeare Street; Anthony Hall, 20, of Seaham Road; David Farrow, 18, of Gregory Terrace; David Rubery, 19, of Kirkstone Close; Gareth Coates, 19, of Wordsworth Avenue West, all in Houghton, and Ian Coates, 36, of no fixed abode.
All the men have been charged with conspiracy to supply class A drugs.
They were not asked to enter a plea and their cases were sent to Newcastle Crown Court.
Watson and Farrow were released on conditional bail. The rest were remanded in custody.
They will all appear at Newcastle Crown Court next month.
The strikes, which took place at 6am, were launched as part of the force’s Operation Sledgehammer.
