Search for suspect after Sunderland sandwich seller attacked

AN e-fit of a suspected axe attacker has been released by detectives investigating an assault on a sandwich seller.

The 53-year-old victim was in Woodbine Street, Hendon, when he was approached by two men who threatened him.

One grabbed him by the throat, while the other attacked his van with the weapon, then the pair fled.

The first man is described as white, about 5ft 6in tall and in his 40s.

He had stubble, one of his eyes was described as “slightly wonky” and he was wearing a blue woolly hat.

The second man, who police have issued an e-fit of is also white, about 6ft tall, in his 20s and of big build.

He was wearing a dark hoody with red piping and was carrying the axe.

Inquiries into the assault are ongoing and if anyone recognises the man, or has any information in relation to the assault, they are asked to contact police in Sunderland on 101 ext 69191.
