A MAN has appeared in court after he failed to pack scrap metal safely on to a truck.
Driver Kirk Moore had loaded up the flatbed vehicle with old washing machines and other unwanted items.
But he did not secure the load properly, and pleaded guilty to a road traffic offence at Sunderland Magistrates’ Court.
The 30-year-old, from Houghton, admitted using the Ford Transit in a condition likely to cause danger.
He was stopped by police in Elemore Lane on March 24.
His solicitor, Robin Ford, said the vehicle was “simply overloaded”, with the main problem being goods at the top of the load.
District Judge Roger Elsey fined Moore, of Seaton Avenue, £80 and ordered he pay a £20 victim surcharge and £30 towards court costs.
