WEARSIDERS wanting to help tackle crime in their communities can join Northumbria Police’s ranks.

Sunderland police is holding two recruitment days at The Bridges where people can find out more about the role of special constables.

Acting Inspector Lisa Laverick said: “Special constables learn a range of skills from improved communication and decision making, to working as part of a team.

“I’ve seen people really develop their personal confidence while doing this voluntary worthwhile role.

“Many of the skills our officers acquire are easily transferable into their existing day-time jobs and help them to progress in their chosen careers.”

The days take place at the shopping centre’s customer services desk on Saturday and Saturday, September 1, from 10am to 4pm.
