A PET shop owner has been left distraught after a pygmy hedgehog was stolen.

The hedgehog, a distinctive white pygmy, was stolen from its cage in Lee’s Pet and Aquatic in Yoden Road, Peterlee, on Tuesday afternoon.

Mick Armstrong, the father of the shop’s owner, said: “We are annoyed that someone could come into the shop and steal from us.

“The hedgehog was in a cage with another one the same, and since it was taken the other hedgehog has gone crazy.

“They were due to be sold as a pair.”

If you know anything about this incident or know where the hedgehog, call police on 101, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
