POLICE in Washington have arrested a man after the discovery of a £10,000 cannabis farm in the town.

Officers executed a warrant at an address on Long Crag, Blackfell where the farm was found. It contained 18 mature cannabis plants.

A 34-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of cultivating cannabis and bailed pending further enquiries.

Paul Stewart, Washington Neighbourhood Inspector, said: “Through this action, we have stopped a significant amount of cannabis being distributed across the area.

“It also demonstrates our commitment to making our communities safer, reducing the supply of illegal drugs and tackling drug-related crime.

“In this current economic climate, people may find themselves in financial difficulties. However, turning to crime isn’t the answer and will always eventually lead to the person being in a worse position - with a criminal record and possible jail sentence.

“As always, we would urge anyone with information on drugs activity to contact us. With the public’s help, we can make sure we target those involved in crime at all levels.

“Anyone who spots any suspicious activity in their neighbourhood should come forward.”
