POLICE looking for missing Washington man Colin Pine have been searching the town’s Albany Park
A dozen or so officers formed a line this afternoon, combing the park for clues and searched thought undergrowth.
Earlier today the force helicopter was seen hovering above Hylton Bridge, and polcuie confirmed it too had been out looking for the 55-year-old.
Mr Pine was reported missing in the early hours of Monday after he failed to return after going out to watch the Tyne-Wear derby on Sunday.
It is believed he watched the match at The Swan Public House at Heworth but where he went after this is unknown.
Police are now becoming increasingly concerned for Mr Pine’s wellbeing.
Sunderland Superintendent Ged Noble said: “At this stage it’s believed he either got on a bus from the Heworth area to head home to Washington, or he walked from The Swan public house, so our focus at this time spans across the two areas of Gateshead and Washington.
“We’re extremely concerned for Mr Pine’s welfare, and obviously his family are desperate to hear from him. This is distressing at any time of year, but so close to Christmas makes it particularly difficult.
“I’d appeal for anyone who saw Mr Pine in the surrounding areas of The Swan, on public transport or walking between this area and Washington, as well as in his own local area around Albany, to get in touch.
“No matter how insignificant you may think the information is, it could prove vital in piecing together Mr Pine’s movements.”
Officers are checking CCTV in the area and have spoken with a number of witnesses from The Swan.
Mr Pine is described as 5ft 6ins tall of stocky build, and when last seen he was wearing a black fleece, navy blue t-shirt, blue jeans and black walking boots.
Anyone who sees him or who knows of his whereabouts is asked to contact police on 101 ext 69191, quoting reference 189 22/12/14.
