A MAN had to be rescued from the seafront in Sunderland this morning.
Police following up a 999 call found the man on the beach near Roker, at about 5am.
He had been in the water and was taken to Sunderland Royal Hospital for a check-up.
The man is not thought to have suffered any injuries.
A spokeswoman for Northumbria Police said: “At 5am, police received a call of concern for a man on the seafront, in Roker Terrace.
“Officers attended and the man was found on the beach, after having been in the water.
“He was taken to hospital as a precaution.”
Sunderland RNLI was alerted at 5.10am, but the call-out was cancelled before the lifeboat was launched.
