POLICE are investigating the death of a man in Sunderland.

Officers were called to a property in Southwick Road at 11.13am on Sunday, following reports of a man with injuries.

Police and the ambulance service attended and found the body of a man who had died.

Enquiries are at a very early stage while officers establish the circumstances leading up to his death.

A 34-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident and is helping police with enquiries.

Police are appealing for witnesses, anyone who was in the area and who may have seen or heard anything suspicious is asked to contact police.

There are additional officers on patrol in the area to reassure the community and to answer any community concerns.
