Police name couple found dead in Washington house

THE couple found dead in a house in Washington have been named.

The bodies of husband and wife Kenneth and Edna Fisher, who were 76 and 74, and from the Biddick Villas area of Washington, where found in a house this morning.

Police were called out by paramedics at about 10.30am this morning. The couple were found by a carer.

Enquiries are underway to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the deaths. A post mortem examination is due to be carried out and police say they are giving family members support.

DCI Christina Barrett, from Northumbria Police’s Major Crime Team, is leading the investigation.

She said: “This investigation is at an early stage, however, there is nothing to suggest there is any threat to the wider community.

“Early indications are that noone else has been involved in these deaths but our enquiries continue to establish exactly what has taken place.

“Anyone with information they believe could assist us is asked to come forward.”

Chief Inspector Dave Willett, from Sunderland Area Command, added: “I understand people may feel concerned following this incident and will have officers in the area to offer reassurance.

“Anyone with concerns should speak to officers on patrol or by calling their local Neighbourhood Policing Team.”
