Police name 24-year-old man killed in A19 smash

POLICE have named a man who sadly died in a collision on the A19 this morning as HGV driver Andrew Nimmo from Murton.

The 24-year-old was killed in a crash involving two lorries and a Ford Focus Zetec which happened at about 5.25am on the southbound carriageway, near the turnoff for the A174 near Thornaby.

Mr Nimmo’s family say they are devastated by his loss. Among those he leaves behind are his fiancée Janinne Lesley, also 24, and her daughter Laylah Hope, five.

Andrew and Janinne were due to get married in August next year.

A 25-year-old man, the driver of the second HGV involved, has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and is police custody.

 The driver of the Ford Focus Zetec a 37-year-old woman was taken to James Cook University Hospital with fractures to her legs.

The A19 remains closed with current indications suggesting that it may open between 3.30pm and 4.00pm. Officers have thanked the public for their patience while they continue to investigate.
