DETECTIVES have renewed their appeal for information after a pensioner was attacked during a street robbery.

The 69-year-old was walking along a path between North Hylton Road and Redcar Road, Red House, when a man pushed her to the floor from behind and snatched her handbag.

Police are keen to hear from a 17-year-old girl walking along the path in the opposite direction to the victim, moments before the attack.

Acting Detective Sergeant Ian Callaghan said: “I must stress, we want to trace this young girl purely as a witness.

“We believe she may have seen two men sitting on a wall on Redcar Road just before the incident and may have helpful information.”

The robbery took place on Friday, December 23, between 8.20pm and 8.40pm.

Anyone with information should phone 101 ex 69191.
