Police attending the scene on Cottages Road in Dawdon after a stabbing in the underpass.

Police attending the scene on Cottages Road in Dawdon after a stabbing in the underpass.

A MAN has been stabbed in the chest after he was attacked in an underpass.

The victim, who is in his late 20s, was found by a police officer in Wynyard Street, Dawdon, just after 4pm yesterday after a report of a disturbance.

The man has told officers he was assaulted as he walked under the railway line bridge between Ropery Walk and Cottages Road.

Police put him into one of its vehicles as they waited for an ambulance, which then took him on to hospital.

Durham Constabulary said it was treating the stabbing as a major incident, but said his injuries were not being classed as life threatening.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
