POLICE investigating a theft scam at a shop are trying to trace this woman.

Officers want to speak to the woman pictured as part of inquiries in to the incident at Boots in North Road, Durham.

The theft happened after a woman browsed the shelves and viewed several items, before selecting one and heading for the till.

She asked staff for a full money refund without buying it first and when asked to hand over a receipt, the woman said it was at home.

She then put the item in her bag and said she would come back later with proof of purchase and then left the store.

Officers carrying out inquiries say the woman they would like to speak to is in her early to mid-20s, of medium build, with a fair complexion and straight long blonde hair with a fringe.

She was wearing a grey or light-coloured chunky knitted and hooded cardigan or jacket and a dark coloured top.

The incident happened at about 2pm on December 31.
