Police cordon off woodland after suspected assault

Forensics officers from Northumbria Police sealed off an area of land next to a footpath close to Glebe Crescent and Avebury Drive, leading to an underpass by the A195.

Northumbria Police said they were dealing with an incident but could not provide any further information at this stage.

However, people in the area said they had heard reports of an assault in the early hours of the morning.
