The victim, who is from Sunderland, was travelling home from Newcastle when a trio of yobs got on the train at Pelaw and began to hurl abuse at him before one of the group punched him in the face - causing his glasses to shatter.

The incident took place at 7.40pm on Thursday, November 22.

PC Graham Adams said, “The victim’s glasses were broken and he was left with reddening and marks to his face in what was a completely unprovoked and violent attack.
