POLICE are hunting a thief who stole £50 from a supermarket self-service till.

A shopper had been using the till at Seaham’s Asda store but forgot to pick up her cashback. When she returned, the money was gone.

Police suspect another customer pocketed the cash before leaving the supermarket.

Now officers have issued a CCTV picture of a man they hope can help them with inquiries. He is between 40 and 50 years old, of medium build, wearing all dark clothing, including a woollen hat and three-quarter-length coat. He was also carrying a backpack.

The incident happened on Thursday, April 26, at 5.55pm, but police have only just released the picture.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Durham Constabulary on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
