Police are appealing for witnesses following a hit and run collision in South Tyneside.

It happened at about 5.05pm on Sunday, December 13, on New Road in Boldon Colliery.

A silver Ford Mondeo car was driving westbound when it collided with a motorcycle. Following the collision the driver of the Mondeo made off from the scene into an adjacent wooded area.

The motorcyclist, a 31-year-old man, was taken to South Tyneside Hospital with serious injuries, his condition is described as stable

The road was closed in both directions for approximately three hours to allow officers to investigate the scene and conduct enquiries.

Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward anyone who was in the area at the time and witnessed the collision is asked to contact Northumbria Police on 101 ext 69191 quoting log number 830 of 13/12/15.
