POLICE are investigating what they call a “suspicious incident” between the occupants of two vehicles in Sunderland.

Officers have launched an appeal for witnesses to the incident, on Ryhope Road, near the entrance to Backhouse Park on Saturday

Police say a Range Rover was driving along the road, near to speed cameras, at about 8.20pm, when it forced a dark blue people carrier to stop.

Several men then got out of the Range Rover and walked across to the occupants of the people carrier.

Witnesses believe the men in the Range Rover may have been involved in some sort of altercation with the occupants of the people carrier. After this both vehicles drove off, the Range Rover left at speed.

So far police have not received any reports of any type of incident from the occupants of the people carrier.

However, they have had other people come forward, who were in the area at the time and believed they witnessed a suspicious incident. At this time it is not clear what has taken place.

Police are appealing for the occupants of the people carrier to contact police and speak to officers about this incident. Officers would also like to speak to anyone else who was also in the area at the time, and who may be able to shed some light on what has happened.

Anyone with information should contact police on 101, extension 69191, quoting log number 1140 of 02/05/15 or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
