Police appeal after man is punched then robbed near Sunderland city centre

POLICE are appealing for help after a man was assaulted then robbed while walking through a subway passage in Sunderland.

It happened at around 3.35am on Saturday, March 28, when a man was approached by a group of men as he walked through the subway under St Michael’s Way, next to Sunderland University’s Murray Library, just off Chester Road.

He was punched by one of the men before his phone and wallet were stolen.

It is believed the attackers then headed off towards Sunderland city centre.

Inquiries into the incident are ongoing and anyone who may have been in the area at the time or who may have information to help is asked to contact police on 101 ext 69191 quoting reference 283 28/03/15 or ring the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
