POLICE are hunting thieves after garden raids in the South Hylton area of Sunderland this week.

Wooden benches were stolen from outside two houses in Wear Street between 3am and 6am Sunday.

Thieves stole two patio chairs, a patio table and a wooden bench from the rear garden of an address in Alma Street, between 8am on Monday, and 8am on Wednesday.

Inquiries are ongoing into the thefts and officers believe they may have been stolen by youths to use for bonfires.

Residents are advised to store away any patio furniture not being used over the winter period in sheds and garages, and are asked to report any suspicious people or behaviour to police.

Anyone with any information into the thefts is asked to contact police on 101 ext 69191 quoting reference number 460 261014.
