A PENSIONER was left with a fractured cheekbone and severe bruising after he was repeatedly hit in an unprovoked attack.

The 67-year-old man was sitting in a white van outside the Cooperage pub in Bowburn when he was approached by another man and hit several times.

Police have appealed for help as they investigate the beating.

Pc Nev Waller said: “This was a completely unprovoked attack which caused serious injuries to an elderly man without any apparent motive.

“We know there were people about at the time and saw what happened.”

The incident happened at 7pm on Sunday, March 27. Anyone with information is asked to contact Durham Police.
