PENSIONER KNOCKED OVER ON SUNDERLAND ROAD

A PENSIONER is in a critical condition in hospital after being knocked down on a Sunderland road.

Police are appealing for information after the 91-year-old man was hit at 8.25pm last night on Whitburn Bents Road.

He was rushed to Newcastle’s RVI hospital after the collision involving a Ford Focus C-Max, which was travelling southbound.

The elderly man sustained serious injuries in the accident and medics have said his condition is critical, but stable.

It is not yet known if he was attempting to cross the road at the time of the incident.

A section of the road was closed for around 90 minutes to allow for collision investigation to be carried out.

Officers are appealing for anyone who was in the area and who witnessed the collision to contact Motor Patrols on 101 ext 69191.
