TWO men have been arrested after a pensioner was injured when his house was raided.
The attack happened at 12.15pm on Saturday when a man went in to his home in Redesdale Road, Downhill, and allegedly threatened the pensioner.
Police said a wallet was taken and the householder suffered minor injuries.
He did not need hospital treatment, but was left shaken.
A 41-year-old man and a 29-year-old man were arrested during the weekend on suspicion of aggravated burglary.
Officers have appealed for witnesses to get in touch.
Detective Sergeant Keith Jewitt, of Northumbria Police, said: “I’d urge anyone who may have been in the area at the time and saw anyone acting suspiciously to contact police.”
The force said extra officers were to be deployed in the area to deal with any concerns from residents.
